Zolr designs shared solar and battery microgrids into residential developments at the building consent stage, before lots are sold and before individual owners are involved. One decision, made once, that every future homeowner benefits from.

The problem

We treat energy as subdivision infrastructure, designed alongside the roads, water, and power, at the consent and build stage. Panels and batteries are installed as the homes go up, and the systems are connected so energy can be shared across the neighbourhood rather than wasted.

Dealing this at the design stage is far simpler than retrofitting dozens of individual homeowners later. The result is lower cost per home, better use of every kWh generated, and a development that stands apart in the market.

The Zolr approach

Grid connection is getting more expensive and less predictable. Lines company contributions, fixed daily charges, and rising retail rates now stack up over the life of a development and none of it is within the developer's control once the subdivision is handed over.

Solar usually gets bolted on afterwards, house by house, if at all. That's the most expensive and least effective way to do it.

Two architectures

Physical Resilience

Full Microgrid

A shared physical network with pooled battery storage across the cluster. When the main grid goes down, the neighbourhood can keep critical systems running on shared storage. The higher-specification option, best suited to sites where resilience is a priority.

Software-Driven Sharing

Virtual Microgrid via MTR

A lower-cost, software-based model using Multiple Trading Relationships. Energy is shared across existing network connections to maximise local use and improve returns, without the physical backbone of a full microgrid. Note: individual homes revert to standard grid behaviour if their own inverter or battery goes offline.
